Chapter 2 Exercise on Page 52

To finalize the visual metaphor for Mark's site, we need to look at some different color and layout combinations and see how they will work with our content. Check out the following layout and color mockups and write down your thoughts on how well each of them represent Mark's content. Remember to think about the themes and visual elements you identified in the previous exercise.

Single column layout with bright pastel colors

The colors are too brigt for this type of project. Pastels don't remind of the Japanese culture. The column structure of the layour will not work for this project either, one column is just not enough.

Three-column site with simple, blue color scheme.

This layout could work but will require some thinking ahead of time as how to use all three columns. The colors are very neutral which could compliment all of the rich media that Mark has from his trip.

Traditional two-column site with earthy color scheme.

The earthy colors are Japanese like, but I think they may be too dark and take away from the overall feel of the site. The colors would muddy everything together rather than help to seperate the different sections. The two-column layout could work well for this project.
